For the benefit of many
A rare opportunity has arisen to purchase a property ideally suited for a new Vipassana long-course centre in the Asia-Pacific region. The proposed new centre will be called Dhamma Rasa (Nectar of Dhamma) and it will be the first long-course centre in the southern hemisphere.
A Dhamma Trust has been formed and a contract has been signed. The Trust is currently seeking donations and loans to help purchase the property for A$2.2 million (US$1.5 million) and provide additional funds to start developing the Centre after purchase.
Dhamma Rasa has received unanimous support from all Australian and New Zealand Teachers.
The time is right for Dhamma Rasa
During his lifetime, Goenkaji envisaged a long course centre in every major region of the world. For Vipassana practitioners to develop more deeply in Dhamma, he knew that facilities dedicated for Special 10-day, 20-day, 30-day, 45-day and 60-day courses are required.
Existing long course Centres include Dhamma Padhana to serve UK and Europe, Dhamma Tapovana and Dhamma Patthana, to serve India and surrounding countries, including the Middle East, and Dhamma Nidhi in Burma.
The time is therefore right for more dedicated long course centres to arise and for Dhamma Rasa to serve the Asia-Pacific region.
This is a historic occasion. People who give dana for building a centre are actually giving service not only to those who come here for the first or second course, and not only to the people who will be coming here in a few years. They are planting a seed in this land, where Dhamma will grow; and for coming centuries this land will be a lighthouse of Dhamma.
